Ryerson University was founded in 1948 as Ryerson Institute of Technology. Established primarily as a training ground for the growing workforce of a booming post-war economy, the Institute was a novel alternative to the traditional apprenticeship system of technical learning.

Ryerson University offers 12 undergraduate degree programs that are unique among Canadian universities: Arts and Contemporary Studies; Disability Studies; Early Childhood Education; Fashion (English-speaking); Graphic Communications Management; Health Information Management (degree-completion); Health Services Management; Image Arts; International Economics and Finance; Occupational and Public Health (Occupational Health and Safety option); Radio and Television; and Retail Management.

At Ryerson University, International Services for Students (ISS) strives to offer comprehensive support services to all registered international students and promote international awareness to the Ryerson Community. Programs and services include:

  • the International Orientation and Peer Supporter Program to assist students' transition to Canadian university life
  • immigration advising facilitates students' visa application process
  • workshop series address cross-cultural communication, health insurance, career strategies, and immigration issues
  • International Services for Students Work Experience Program (ISSWEP)
  • International Emergency Bursary Program advocates financial support and employment opportunities for international students
  • monthly social events and the annual President's Party for international students promote cultural diversity and student engagement on campus!
