Description and accommodation Ottawa

OttawaLa Cité Collégiale is placed the city of Ottawa, a city of beauty and contrast. The high-tech capital of the country, Ottawa is also a city of park-like greenery and interconnecting rivers and canals. In the shadow of Canada's majestic Parliament Buildings, the bustling Byward Market, trendy restaurants, elegant shops, quaint outdoor cafes and artisans' stalls flourish in a dynamic downtown centre.

Ottawa is the meeting place of two cultures, modern and historic architecture, and boasts some of the finest cultural facilities in the country. The National Gallery enjoys an international reputation, drawing record numbers of visitors from around the world for exhibits of masters such as Renoir and Picasso. The National Arts Centre is a leader in the presentation of classical and contemporary music, theatre, and dance. Ottawa is also home to the National Museum of Science and Technology, while the Canadian Museum of Civilization is a stone's throw away across the river in Gatineau.

Ottawa is a city of festivals. The Canadian Tulip Festival celebrates the colours of spring with dazzling garden displays throughout the city. Winterlude, a February celebration that attracts a million visitors to the city each year, extols the pleasures of an icy Canadian winter, from skating on the world's longest skating rink to eating a hot Beaver Tail pastry. Just outside the city and minutes from downtown Ottawa, you'll discover Gatineau Park. The park is 365 square miles of pristine lakes, rolling hills, and panoramic views of the Ottawa Valley. The park is famous for excellent hiking, swimming, canoeing, and bird-watching. Winter activities include kicksledding and cross-country skiing on 200 km of superb trails.
